The PH 5 pendant light, along with its smaller counterpart, the PH 5 Mini, are iconic lighting fixtures designed by the Danish architect and designer Poul Henningsen for Louis Poulsen. These lights are celebrated for their timeless design, functionality, and innovative approach to illuminating spaces.
Poul Henningsen designed the PH 5 pendant light in 1958, and it quickly became an iconic piece of Danish design. The name "PH 5" refers to the 50-centimeter diameter of the top shade. The design is characterized by its layered structure, with multiple shades positioned to ensure uniform light distribution and eliminate glare.
The PH 5 Mini, introduced later, retains the same design principles but in a smaller size, making it suitable for smaller spaces or for clustering in groups to create visual interest.
Both the PH 5 and PH 5 Mini are versatile lighting fixtures that can complement a wide range of interior styles, from modern and minimalist to classic and traditional. Their ability to provide both ambient and task lighting makes them ideal for residential and commercial applications alike.
